Nathan had his appt with the ped this afternoon to follow up on the heart murmur the GI heard last Fri. He listened and listened and finally said he could not tell if he heard it because he knew the other dr heard it or if he really heard it, but he thought he did hear something. He felt his liver and agreed it was either enlarged or being pushed down by some other organ and he decided to refer Nathan for an EKG. He said that, just by looking at Nathan and how well he gains weight, he is pretty sure there is no heart problem there, but he also said he would hate to assume that nothing is wrong and find out later there was a problem that could have easily been discovered by doing a simple and non-invasive test, so he said he would like to err on the side of caution and do the EKG anyways. He did say though, that he would be SHOCKED to see anything but a normal result come back on it, so that made me feel a whole lot better!
He checked the abcess while we were there and said it looks like we did exactly the right thing by calling the ID and getting him on meds right away. He said it looked to him like a Staph abcess, most likely MRSA and as long as it continued to improve, he thinks Nathan will be just fine. Their office was going to call and schedule the EKG so I will let you know how that goes!

Yep, better safe than sorry!! I bet he will be fine though!! Good luck and let us know!! He is so adorable!
Btw, I was born with an ASD and had a heart murmur for 3 years of my life. I had many EKG's and I never remember them being bad at all. Hugs.

I hope the ekg goes well. I just wanted to tell, when ever my sons gets an ekg, I ask to look at it and the paper that prints out says right on it diagnosis. If you are anything like me and hate waiting for the phone call of the results... maybe they will tell you right then how it came out.
I'm sure your ped is right that it will be totally normal, but it's great that he/she's cautious

Glad to hear the abcess is better! I hope the EKG turns out fine, I'm sure you'll definitely feel better after having it done. Maeve's always been pretty cooperative for EKGs, even the 24 hr Holter monitor type, they're not bad at all.

I'm sure the EKG will be fine. I hjust hope he doesn't pull the leads off while they are running the test. As easy as it is to run, I bet it's a hoot to see a kid Nathan's age do it. Good luck.
