Ugh...here we go again... - Parent-2-Parent & Reflux in Children

This time it is Nathan...he had a sore/bite in his diaper area just under the belly crease and it has gone from a small red mark to a big abcess. It seems to be 2 in long by 1 in wide. The red area is bigger and kind of streaky looking. I am just fit to be tied! We never had this problem and now have had 2 brushes with them in a month! We have a call into the ID dr since he saw Nicholas for this and tested us all for MRSA...I figure he or whoever is on call for him should be able to tell us what to do. Dh is still colonized, so we know the possibility is high that it could be MRSA since he still has it and bathes and diapers the kids. I am hoping to avoid a hospitalization, but I am not sure how this would be treated outpatient since we did not do it that way last time and since Nathan's Ig levels were low as well. I will keep you posted...

Ok, heard back from him after only 1.5 hrs. Poor guy was trying to call us and since our phone co stinks, he could not get through to us. He finally had to call the answering service to call us and put his call through to us. He was SO apologetic! See, JennS! You are not the only one who our phone does not like! So we have a plan...we are to try the leftover Bactroban ointment fron Nicholas' infection and also the Bactrim he is calling in until tomorrow and see how it is doing. We are also to put him in a warm bath and monitor his temp. Hopefully, the warm bath will draw it to the surface so it will drain. We need to mark it after the bath as well so we can see if it is getting bigger. If his temp hits 102+ (100 right now), if it gets a lot bigger, or if it is not looking better by tomorrow afternoon we will need to take him in. I am SO not wanting another hosp stay right now, so I am hoping we can manage it at home and get it lanced on Mon. Poor kid. I think dh is dine changing diapers for a while until he is getting abx for the colonization. I will keep you all posted...

Ugh, sorry this is happening again. I hope your home treatments work and you can avoid going inpatient!

Oh No. I hope you can treat this at home and he does not need to be hospitalized. You do not need anything else to deal with right now. Give Nathan a big hug and I will try to catch you sometime tomorrow to check on him.

Oh my goodness, your poor little guys can't catch a break! I hope that the ointment will help keep things under control so that you don't have to go to the hospital.
