A has recently potty trained...but when she urinates...it goes straight forward. No exaggeration- I have her sit back as far as she can on the seat, and 1/2 the time she still pees on the step in from of the toilet. Her pee literally goes straight out instead of down.
What's going on?

Could it be from the way that she is sitting that her hips are positioned so that it aims forward? I hope that it is something easily fixable!!

Could it possibly be a labial fusion? I've heard that the urine stream can be affected if there is one going on.
There is also another condition called Meatal Stenosis that can cause abnormal urine stream.
I think you should bring it up the next time you're at the pedi.
Good luck in figuring out what's going on! I'm sure it's nothing serious.

DD had issues with this (how she was sitting had a difference) it been a long time but I think it needed to be the reverse of what you are doing-sitting closer to the front edge and leaning formward slightly) You could maybe try the little kids toilet seats that go on the top with the "splash guard" for little boys too (just make sure it is soft) or try a litlle potty on the floor to see if postioning has anything to do with it.

It might be worth having the ped look at too. We didn't with DD but when she was older and having urinary issues they did mention that something wasn't exactly normal-not enought they needed to look at it further unless they coudln't find any other reason for her issues (in her case antibiotics even with a neg urine test worked-so we didn't pursue it further).

I'd check to make sure her labia (minora and majora) isn't fused or that you can easily separate both and see the openings for both the vagina and urethra. Maybe having her put her legs together while she pees would help. As she gets older, if this is still a problem because of her anatomy, she can probably learn to control her urine so that it comes out slower.... If you're concerned enough to have her checked by a urologist, I can recommend a couple. Caite and Sam each see a different one and they're both really good. :)

When Hattie potty trained she was peeing between the seat and toliet. I just had her lean forward slightly and then the pee goes in the potty.

When Maggie went on he potty for the first time she sprayed everything in front of her, floor, wall, mom, she doesn't comprehend leaning forward yet but we are working on it,verrrrrrrrrrrry slowly.

Cate leans over bent in half and pees/poops this way. She had issues too...but telling her to put her legs together, and lean forward helps. HUGS!
